Having established yesterday that I am a daughter of the sun, it is up to me to find survival strategies in the winter. Regular sauna or hamam trips help, and so does the occasional sun bed session or massage. A wide selection of teas and hot chocolate as a treat are a must too.

But what about simply ignoring winter? Then you can fire up the barbecue! This is what we did last weekend. Of course by -4° we did not eat outside. We drank mulled wine as an aperitif and not cocktails. A special mention for Sexy Hubby’s heroic attitude, he who stoically stood on the terrace until the last steak, the last piece of salmon and the last sausage were cooked. He had regular visitors to keep him company, but this Viking blood is quite something, I tell you.

Second Daughter even made a special barbecue cake for the event. Her own idea, she did it all by herself and it was delicious. All our guests loved the sausage, burgers, chicken leg and mug of mulled wine made out of chocolate, nuts, marzipan and fondant.

The evening was a success, but next time I am sure we will all be joining Sexy Hubby outside on the terrace. With a glass of rosé wine.

  1. Excellent! Mr B is made of hardy stuff too. And he got a new BBQ for his birthday last week. Can’t beat a BBQ’d sausage in the winter 🙂

    What a wonderful cake!

    1. I remember! Training for his marathon in the snow! I was very impressed… Happy birthday to him, is he going to try his new BBQ in the winter too, then? 😉
As for the cake, I will probably sound biased but both my daughters are fabulous bakers… 🙂 xx

    1. He is indeed… I was impressed! The party was a lot of fun, everybody enjoyed it. Temperatures are going up next week I am told, so we might soon move to “embrace spring” instead of “ignore winter”! 🙂

  2. Is that the photo of the barbecue cake top right? It’s brilliant? What a talent your daughter has!

    1. It is the barbecue cake indeed… After the leopard print/mask combo came the barbecue version, and there was a fabulous apple cake too. We have been treated to quite a few fantastic and delicious cakes recently… I love having creative daughters! 😉 xx
