Back in July, Sexy Hubby and I attended the Steelhouse Festival in Wales, headlined by Black Star Riders and Europe. We had the greatest of times and cherry on the icing, we managed to pick a fantastic B&B for our stay. Located in Beaufort (Ebbw Vale), Soar Chapel was formerly a Baptist Chapel, which has been beautifully turned into a luxury guest house.

Thanks to our Sat-Nav we easily found Soar Chapel and parked our rental car in the big car park leading to the rear entrance of the house. As soon as we turned the engine off, the door opened and we were warmly welcomed. Lovely first impression. We were then taken to our ground floor double bedroom. While not huge, there was more than enough space to circulate and for our luggage. I loved the unusual window over the bed; together with the other large window they made the room really bright. It was nicely decorated, with tea/coffee making facilities and bottled water, and to my delight we found a bedtime story on the duvet. The kind of attention to detail that makes a difference. The bathroom was spacious and modern, and prettily decorated too.

After settling in we made ourselves a cup of tea and headed for the little garden. We sat down on the wooden chairs and we must have been spotted from the kitchen window, as we were soon presented with freshly baked Welsh cakes. The perfect accompaniment to our cuppa; no doubt our two companions would agree!

We then explored the very large and airy guest lounge on the first floor, accessible via a grand wooden staircase. My photo only shows a small part of it, but everything was there to provide comfort and entertainment, from comfortable couches to a huge TV and magazines.

Breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked, with adjustment to various dietary requirements not a problem. In fact, I even received an email after booking our room covering that very subject. Sexy Hubby went for the full Welsh breakfast all three mornings and I have fond memories of the blueberry pancakes with vanilla sauce…

The owners were very friendly and always ready to help and answer any questions. In our case, giving us precise instructions on how to get to the nearest supermarket… Given the dismal weather forecast we had not brought sun cream and ended up having to buy some! I should also mention that WIFI is included. We had a bit of trouble with it, having to reconnect regularly for it to work.

Steelhouse Festival is already on our “to do” list for next year. Now we just have to make sure we book a room at Soar Chapel in time.

  1. A personal (non-sponsored) recommendation goes a long way, so well done. I always review places we stay. Soar Chapel does sound very appealing, and everyone should holiday in Wales 🙂

    1. I agree, I was very happy to be back in Wales and to discover a place I did not know! 🙂
Thought I would make it clear this was not sponsored and hoping it will be useful to other travellers. xx

  2. Oh that looks so quaint! I just love staying in a place that can remind me of a home where I’d be living! That staircase is so beautiful too 🙂

  3. Wow that looks like a lovely place to stay – I love accommodation that has been repurposed from something else, it gives it such character!
