When I bought The Final Countdown, my very first Europe single that I still have today, I never imagined that I would meet the band… and certainly not on top of a mountain in Wales!

My Europe collection has since grown quite a bit and Sexy Hubby and I saw the band in concert in Germany two years ago. We had such a brilliant time that we knew we would want to see them live again. Our first idea was to go to London in April this year during their joint tour with Foreigner, but in the end this plan did not work out. Then we heard about Steelhouse Festival in the Ebbw Vale in Wales. New bands to discover, one of Sexy Hubby’s idol, Bernie Marsden, on the programm and Black Star Riders and Europe as headliners! We immediately bought our tickets and organised our trip.

I had been in touch with Europe’s management by email for a possible meet and greet but sometimes you just have to seize the moment. And that is what I did when I spotted the band manager on Sunday afternoon. We got to meet almost all of the band members – guitarist John Norum was getting ready for the show – about an hour before they were expected on stage. They were lovely, relaxed and friendly. We had a little chat and told them that New Love in Town was our wedding song, therefore rendering this meeting even more special to us. They all signed our tickets and graciously posed for photos, not even getting impatient when I asked for pictures to be taken with my phone as well as with my camera… I had to laugh when I saw the photos, I think it is pretty obvious who is used to pose and who is not! 😉

I would like to once more reiterate our thanks to Joey, John, Mic and Ian for taking the time to see us and to Adam for making it happen. It was very much appreciated. In fact, I was still on my little cloud when the show started. As you can see below, the chosen set was just perfect to close a fantastic festival. And not only did Europe sing New Love in Town, but also Sign of the Times, another one of our favourites.

More to come about Steelhouse Festival tomorrow and Europe, see you next year on your joint tour with Black Star Riders!
