While on holiday in New Mexico, during which we visited White Sands, we stayed with some of our cousins who live in Las Cruces. Nicknamed “The City of the Crosses”, Las Cruces is the second largest city in this state after Albuquerque. It is also the economic centre of the Mesilla Valley, the agricultural area surrounding the Rio Grande.

One of my favourite parts of the landscape is the impressive Organ Mountains, about 15 km east of town, already featured in my Travel – I Have Tried post. Absolutely breathtaking.

We enjoyed an excursion to the old mesilla village with its pretty adobe houses and our stay was also the opportunity for the girls to experience real Mexican food. I loved the fact that their meals were served on a “plate” that was in fact a Frisbee. We still have both of them and they are being put to use every year during our beach holiday or afternoons by the lake!

  3. There’s so much warmth emanating from those photos – just gorgeous.

I think the frisbee idea is genius. I’m surprised more restaurants haven’t thought of that as a treat for the children.
