Be Good To Your Gut

A digestive problem can greatly affect day-to-day life, causing discomfort and affecting what we can and cannot do. Being good to your gut can prevent such problems from taking hold or ease symptoms if you already have an illness or disorder. Here are a few ways to care for your gut.

Change your diet

Eating lots of fibre is great for your digestive system – both soluble and insoluble fibres. This includes foods such as whole grains, nuts, seeds, fruit and vegetables. Probiotics such as yoghurt and kefir meanwhile can help break down lactose and enhance nutrient absorption. You should avoid eating too many high fat foods – along with all the other negative effects on the body, these are harder to break down and can wear down your gut. Processed fats are particularly hard for the body to digest.

Drink Lots of water

Without enough water, you run more risk of getting constipated, as you do not have enough fluids to keep food moving through your gut. Even if you have diarrhoea, drinking lots of water can be beneficial in helping to clean out any triggers that could be the cause, as well as preventing dehydration from loss of fluids. It is recommended we all drink two litres of water a day. This equates to 8 eight-ounce cups of water.

Stay active

Exercise helps us burn fats faster – both fat on our body and fat in our guts. Moving also helps our digestive system to stay active and exercise is also shown to improve our immune system. As a result, gut problems caused by bacteria or infection can be fought off more effectively.

Try over-the-counter meds

There are plenty of over the counter meds and herbal remedies that can help with an upset gut. You can buy these at your local pharmacy or shop online (there are plenty of review sites that can help when buying meds on the web). Probiotics and IBS have seen a positive link, with some studies suggesting that probiotics can even cure IBS in some cases in the right dosage. Herbal teas and spices such as ginger are also effective for calming digestive problems. For serious cases, it is worth seeing a GP who may be able to prescribe something more effective, particularly if polyps or an abscess is the cause of the discomfort.

Say no to stress

Stress has all kinds of negative effects on the body, one being that it sends the digestive system into hysteria. This is because when we are stressed, the brain prioritised other bodily functions, paying less attention to our gut. This can cause diarrhoea or constipation to develop, as well as overproducing stomach acid, which can bring on stomach aches. Various forms of relaxation therapy can help to relieve stress as well as getting enough sleep.

Michi Michi Rainbow Land |
Clothing, Jewellery and Accessory Online Shop

Second Daughter is a big fan of Japanese fashion. She often makes clothes and accessories herself but is all the same always on the lookout for shops dedicated to her passion. When she found Michi Michi Rainbow Land on DaWanda, it was a happy day for her.

We have so far placed three orders with Teresa. I say “we”, because I started browsing her shop too and found (many) things to my liking. All items arrived quickly, were very well made and in the right colours. They came in a pretty, shiny lilac package, with a nice little note and a discount voucher for a next order. Communicating with Teresa is easy and extremely friendly. When for whatever reason the discount voucher did not work with the second order, she sent some free products instead. When, to benefit from a promotion, I wanted to add some products to an order she had already prepared and sent, Teresa created a custom order for me and charged me a minimal amount for postage. Impeccable service, really.

I have worn my Mexican Skull Day of the Dead ring and necklace quite a lot already. I find they add a nice spot of colour to a black outfit. All other items you can see on the photos belong to Second Daugther. And she lent me her pink wig for the hair accessories… 😉

Michi Michi Rainbow Land is also present on other online shopping platforms such as Etsy or Storenvy. You can find the relevant links below.

Tell me, do you like this style of jewellery and accessories?

Photo Shoot |
Just For Fun

If you are the photographer in the family, chances are you rarely appear in photos. Or you may be looking for a new way of gathering memories with your children and husband. Or you simply wonder what it feels like to be a model for one day. Let my share my experiences with you.

The first photo shoot I ever took part in happened when I was still living in Switzerland. My friend Sabine was launching her photography business and asked me if I would pose for her with my daughters. I jumped at the chance and over ten years later, the memories of this sunny, happiness filled day still make me smile. My second shoot was with Sabine too, a present for the man who was then Sexy Boyfriend. Needless to say, he loved it.

Not long after I moved to Germany, I met Jaytee, also a photographer. Our photo sessions have been both professional and private. On the business side, we did three Desigual “campaigns” together – and laughed a lot in the process! All theme-related photos on my blog have been taken in her fotoinitiative studio and there are more to come linked to my new projects…

On the private side, Sexy Hubby and I took part in a couple photo shoot. My jaw just dropped when I saw the pictures, we absolutely loved them. You can find a few examples in my AFFLICTION Leather Jackets | The Professional Photo Shoot post. I will also always be grateful to Jaytee to suggest a session with my Mum, First and Second Daughters. This was at the time First Daughter decided to move back to Switzerland, a very difficult period for me. The afternoon in the studio was a welcome breath of fresh air and the resulting photos still bring tears of emotion to my eyes.

Finally, I did two more “just me” shoots. The first one was again a present for Sexy Hubby and involved guitars and cowgirl boots. 😉 The second, recent one is a mix between:
1. New professional photos
2. An anniversary gift to my husband
3. Trying out the new boudoir area of Jaytee’s studio
4. Testing new backgrounds
Once again, I love them all and I must say, that brick wall makes a brilliant background.

Jaytee’s style is not to direct her customers. On the contrary, the music of your choice is on, you are relaxed and chatting. Then somehow, you just move around and Jaytee captures your expression or pose at the exact right second. The whole process is a lot of fun and the moment your pictures are being unveiled very exciting.

Fun, excitement and wonderful memories, what more can you ask for?

French Holiday Souvenirs |
Gorgeous Earrings

Our latest France trip ended almost a week ago now and I am still in French mode. A little bit. Why? Because I am wearing one of the two pairs of earrings I bought in my favourite small jewellery shop in Gruissan.

During our last summer holidays there, I came home with these finds. This time, apart from our customary supplies of the eating and drinking categories, I decided to treat myself to these very pretty earrings.
