Breakfast is without a doubt my favourite meal of the day, so I was delighted to discover that Tara had chosen it as a theme this week.
We are definitely an “eating together” family. During the week, breakfast is shared at the kitchen bar, chatting or not talking much depending on the level of sleepiness… Second Daughter is a morning person most of the time, which is more than can be said about First Daughter, Sexy Hubby or myself! In my case, getting up earlier than the rest of the family for my Morning – Going Inside routine does help, though. We have fresh fruit salad with yogurt, wholegrain cereals or porridge with blueberries and almonds, depending on personal tastes and the season.
At the weekend, Second Daughter goes to the bakery and comes back with a selection of fragrant, sometimes still warm bread rolls. She always makes sure the table looks pretty, complete with candles, and when we are up, we finish preparing everything together. We often put music on too, and I really enjoy not being rushed and sitting down with my loved ones for ages around the table.
Then there are the celebration breakfasts. I picked two examples, a Valentine’s Day and an Easter brunch. Extra care goes into setting a festive table and of course, an extensive menu is provided, even more so when we have guests. The eldest son of one of my lovely British friends went as far as saying that our full English breakfast was the best he had ever tasted! We were rather proud.
What is your ideal breakfast?
PS: for those of you who have read my Funky Wellies? page and therefore know about my phobia of frogs and toads, my breakfast bowl is therapy! 😉
