Regular readers of this blog are aware that my daughters and I quite enjoy baking, but we are also always happy to receive cakes. So when Baker Days asked me if I fancied reviewing one of their Personalised Letterbox Gift cakes I did not hesitate!

I was asked to pick a design in their extensive range or to send them the photo of my choice. As we had no upcoming birthdays in my family and Mother’s Day is not until May in Germany I decided to go for… a cake to celebrate the revamping of my blog! I sent Baker Days a photo of my beloved wellies and asked them to add “Funky Wellies Random Thoughts” as my words of choice.

A lovely email informed me on Friday March 1st that my cake was on its way. It arrived in perfect condition on Tuesday March 5th. Pretty quick given that it was sent before the weekend and from the UK to Germany. The cake is packed in a sturdy box designed to fit through UK letterboxes but I can confirm that it works in Germany too. Good to know should you consider sending such a gift to family or friends living abroad.

The cake comes in a very pretty “Just for you” tin and Second Daughter was delighted to discover a small pack of Love Hearts in the box too. A nice touch, together with the cheerful little card telling us “Enjoy your cake”. We certainly did. First I was impressed with the quality of the image on the icing. The cake simply looked fabulous and the orange colour for the inscription I had requested was just right. The cake was a moist and light Madeira sponge, perfectly complemented by the icing, and offered 3-4 portions. “Best before” date was another ten days after I received it so nothing to fault there either.

The Baker Days website is very user-friendly and offers more than 500 designs for all occasions. In addition to the letterbox cakes you can also order party cakes (50-60 portions) and cupcakes. You have of course the possibility to use your own message or photo just like I did. The starting price is 14.99 £ and delivery is free in the UK. You can also choose from carrot, fruit, double chocolate chip or gluten and wheat free options for a small extra fee.

I would most definitely recommend Baker Days or use their services again to surprise a loved one with a sweet gift.

Disclosure: Baker Days sent me a free letterbox gift cake in return for writing this review.
